Digital Director


Job Description:  AW Media, Inc. was founded in 2002, with the launch of our flagship monthly publication, Austin Woman magazine. With instant popularity, Austin Woman grew quickly and has become the premier magazine for women in Austin. As the ONLY women-centric medium in the market, Austin Woman magazine is the preferred and most targeted channel to reach professional, influential women, ages 25-54. The new role of the Digital Director will be to manage the development of AW Media's web channels, including ATXWoman, ATXDoctors and ATXMan. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the print editor to plan, assign and execute editorial for the website.
  • Curates a list of web freelancers and unpaid partners to contribute on a monthly, bi-weekly or weekly basis.
  • Content planning for a portion of web assignments 2 months ahead of scheduled airdate, in correlation with plans for upcoming print editorial plans.
  • Edits all web copy and conducts all image requests, following AW's Style Guide and image rights guidelines. 
  • Works with AW's Creative Director to attend cover photoshoots and other pertinent photo shoots for “behind the scenes” content. Take photos and video content.
  • Works closely with sales team to generate sponsored content ideas and write stories for clients.
  • Manages social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) for new web content.
  • Responsible for layout and overall appearance of web pieces in WordPress CMS.
  • Manages SEO for all web content and keeps an eye on analytics/metrics to help drive traffic to sites.
  • Hire, train and develop interns for web. 
  • Represents Austin Woman at events around town, retains a polished demeanor and acts as the main face-to-face point of contact for all editorial branches of AW.

Job Requirements: 

  • Must have 2 to 3 years previous experience in an editorial or digital content-related role. 
  • Thorough knowledge of AP Style, Google Analytics, WordPress, SEO and social media management tools. 
  • Experience managing writers and planning, delegating and editing content.

Internship Opportunities


10 - 15 hours per week

Austin Woman magazine offers Spring, Summer and Fall editorial internships. Interns play a vital role in the production of our monthly magazine, and they will have the opportunity to gain hands-on training and experience in the publishing world. We are seeking motivated and creative interns to devote at least 10 hours per week. Duties include researching, interviewing, writing, fact checking, image gathering, generating ideas, generating web content for articles and social media, helping us maintain and update our website, assist us in sorting story submissions, pitches, and attending events on behalf of the magazine.

Candidates must demonstrate excellent computer, communication and organizational skills, thorough attention to detail as well as the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with platforms such as Google platforms (Calendar/Drive), Dropbox and Microsoft Office is a plus. This internship is best suited for someone who can handle anything thrown their way. Familiarity with AP Style is a plus.

AW Media. Inc, which publishes the award-winning Austin Woman magazine and ATX MAN-Austin Man Magazine, is seeking a dynamic, Special Events Intern to assist its Operations and Marketing Manager with internal and external marketing events that are fun and innovative in an effort to grow our event presence in the Austin area. Candidate must have positive attitude, some event industry experience and be willing and able to learn quickly. Candidate must be professional, upbeat, confident and highly organized. This position requires exceptional time management skills and candidate must be a self-starter.

We work in a fast-paced, deadline business, so you must be able to keep a positive attitude and professional demeanor under pressure. We are specifically looking for someone who is proactive, forward-thinking and takes the reins of this job and the business as if it is his or her own.

The job requires 7-10 hours weekly and is an unpaid position.

Graphic Design

8 - 20 hours per week

Be a part of a community that inspires and celebrates women in Austin while learning how the magazine industry works.


  • Design layouts for advertisements, special sections and editorial pages
  • Assist with collecting ad materials
  • Creating and editing art across all CS6 platforms
  • Update the magazine website
  • Assist in email and social media marketing


  • Must have a passion for print publication
  • Possess a working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision under tight deadlines
  • Be a good communicator and a creative problem solver
  • Maintain a professional, upbeat demeanor when interacting on the

Social Media

7 - 10 hours per week

We are looking for an intern to assist with our social media marketing efforts. You will learn the ins and outs of our business and how to make social media a productive part of our overall marketing efforts.

Interns are expected to have experience with social media on (at least) a personal level (use on a business level preferred). You must be able to think strategically and see how social media fits into a business’ marketing strategy, not just “selling” to our customers, but building long-lasting relationships by providing value to them. Interns must be able to assist in formulating social media plans, and then carry them out (with our assistance). You must be able to measure and document the impact of social media, and then suggest action-steps to increase impact.
