South By Southwest is a fun week of events, but it can get expensive fast. But it’s easy to take advantage of the hundreds of unofficial events that happen throughout the city during the month of March. A few of our favorites are listed below to help you navigate the crowded streets.

Spotify House

Everyone’s favorite music-streaming service is back in Austin for a week of music events. Located on East Sixth Street, Spotify House will showcase 30-plus must-see acts in an intimate setting. Remember to RSVP so you don’t miss performances by Marian Hill, Conrad, Ryan Hemsworth, Odesza and Run The Jewels.

Beers and Barks Yappy Hour

Anyone who lives in Austin knows we’re obsessed with our dogs. This SXSW, try taking your canine companion to Beers and Barks Yappy Hour at Bar 96 on Rainey Street on March 14. Enjoy live music on the deck close to downtown and take a break from waiting in line for events.

KUTX Live at the Four Seasons

Interested in some local flavor? Look no further than the live morning broadcast of KUTX 98.9 at the Four Seasons Hotel. The lively local radio station will provide free coffee, free breakfast tacos and most importantly, free music every morning from March 18 through 21. Catch a show before you head to work, to really take in this year’s festival.

The Yard at la Barbecue

Barbecue and Austin are synonymous. What better free event can there be than one with live music while you wait for your freshly smoked brisket? This year, Wind Up Records is sponsoring a two-day event at la Barbecue, with performances by Coin, Rubblebucket, Safia, Gemini Club and more. Make sure to RSVP for free entrance.

SXSW Outdoor Stage

There are not many official SXSW events that are open to the public, let alone events that create a major buzz. However, this year, Austin’s own Spoon will play a free (Yes, you read correctly!) concert on March 19 at Auditorium Shores. Check out the official SXSW website for more information on the event.

Make Some Noise

The second annual Make Some Noise event presented by Neiman Marcus, celebrates women on the rise, making a difference, and leading the way forward for their generation. Rolling Stone ranked two music performances from Make Some Noise in their top 50 shows of SXSW. Running March 18 to 20, Make Some Noise will feature live music and talks from women in the technology, fashion, film, music, food, art, and business industries. Speakers include Freida Pinto, Jenna Bush-Hager, Shiza Shahid, Dyllan McGee, Laura Dern, Katie Lee, Rebecca Minkoff, Lizzy Plapinger and Rosario Dawson.
