The 9th annual BiG Idea Day Luncheon will be held on April 17th. The event – organized by BiGAUSTIN – is an award ceremony for honoring Austin’s premier entrepreneurs. This year’s luncheon will honor Central Texas’ business community “via an American Idol-style business plan competition,” says D’Andra Ulmer from BiGAUSTIN.

Over 500 people are expected to attend this year’s luncheon. An award for the best business plan will be given to the winner from a pool of nominees who have created the best plan for their individual businesses. A panel of judges has already evaluated business plans and selected three finalists. The audience at the luncheon will decide the BiG Idea winner.

“We invite Austin to come recognize the hard work of small businesses while networking with business owners, investors, bankers and other organizations in Central Texas,” says Ulmer. She adds that the purpose of the event is to celebrate entrepreneurship and recognize the hard work of those who nourish our local economy. The winner will receive $10,000 in cash and in-kind prizes.

BiGAUSTIN provides entrepreneurial education, small business solutions and micro lending to the Central Texas community. It has served over 7,720 clients since 2004 and 61% of its clients are women. As Ulmer puts it, BiGAUSTIN is the “women’s business center of Central Texas.”
